Projet ARISS / Episode 02

The Émile Guillemain secondary school in Moulins has been selected for the ARIS project, which aims to establish radio contact with the International Space Station in the first half of 2027. Three teachers, Bertrand Faye, Patricia Labeyrie and Sylvain Dalsheimer, are leading this project born from a partnership with Moulins radio amateurs. It relies in particular on a specially scheduled maths-science class bringing together eighth and ninth grade students. The teachers are preparing the young people on the physics and mathematics concepts needed to understand satellites and space communications. A first test radio contact with astronaut Sophie Adwan has already generated strong enthusiasm among the students and teachers. The project also addresses cross-cutting themes such as climate, Earth observation, health, and astronauts' physical activity. A presentation by the UFR STAPS is notably planned to raise students' awareness of nutrition and sport. The day of the official contact with the ISS will involve a special schedule-free day engaging the whole school. The exact date will only be known a week before the event, scheduled between January and June 2027.
